Streetart in...

... Madrid!

Madrid is known to have some of the world's best street and urban art. There are some places where you can find and see a lot of streetart:
Lavapiés is the area where very different cultures and traditions meet. Originally the Jewish getto, it's now home to people from all over the world. It serves as inspiration for plenty of artists, actors, writers and musicians who are all in search for a place to practice their art. Lavapiés is where you will find a lot of interesting graffiti art and an ‘artfull’ atmosphere. You'll find pictures of street artists from all over the world, like these two:

Types of Street Art - Sticker

Stickers

For three years an entirely new form of graffiti has been characterizing the streets of German cities. Writings and drawings glued on electrical boxes, walls or houses, in the form of stickers.

How has this started?
Graffiti artists didn't put their "tags" at the wall with only colour: faster and therefore less hazardously. They painted the lettering on stickers at home which they could install rapidly and inconspicuously later on the streets.

Soon an own kind of streetart developed from thist.
The stickers became much more luxurious and bigger.

The pictures are imaginative oder provocative. You often find expensively produced, colored silk-screen printed stickers next to the selfpainted ones.
The motives vary between sociocritical themes, matchstick men and also very well drawn pictures. In the large cities of Germany such as Berlin, Munich, Hamburg, Leipzig and Frankfurt there is a very remarkable adhesive scene.

It's difficult for some people, who have nothing to do with the Streetart culture, to understand the complicated graffiti-language. Mostly they think it is nothing more than smearings but with the sticker art it's completely different. People who don't know about the streetart scene can understand the simple pictures and drawings, so they can also smile about it. Certainly, this means a wider target group for the street artists.
